Is This What We Want?

Canceling student debt is unfair to people who paid theirs off.

When I was your age, I did school and work full-time.

You need to quit complaining and realize how easy you have it.

Do we, though?

This isn’t to say that previous generations didn’t endure their share of hardships, but ones struggle doesn’t invalidate another’s.

I remember being straddled with a promissory note from a for-profit institution that eventually folded. It took three years to settle that debt.

I have no desire to see anyone else go through that.

Don’t we owe it to our children and future generations, to ensure that we don’t have to endure what we did?

Aren’t our children supposed to do better than us?

Aren’t we supposed to do everything we can to ensure they exceed us?

We had our struggles. Our children will have theirs. What we should do is make sure they never have to deal with our trials, in addition to their own.

We need to stop being so selfish. It isn’t about us anymore.
