It’s a drastic move, and one that probably won’t happen, but hear me out.

A few weeks ago, Nintendo opened up pre-orders for it’s OLED Switch. Those pre-orders have since promptly sold out.

“But isn’t that the way this works?” You ask, and you’d be right. Unfortunately, people make the world a much harder place than it has to be. See, in the days before the internet, before the meteor took out the dinosaurs and ushered in the world we now inhabit, pre-orders were a lot simpler. You’d go to your nearby game store, put your money down, come back on release day and head home with your new console. Of course, no system is perfect. You should’ve seen the riots that hit downtown San Francisco when a whole bunch of people learned their PS2 pre-orders couldn’t be fulfilled.

Now, though, because some people are trash, when pre-orders open up, they sit at the keyboard and buy entire inventories. Once it ships to their trash cans, they resell the inventory at tremendous markup. Because it’s not like you have anywhere else to turn, right? This is why you may have had such a difficult time getting a PS5, and this is also why OLED Switches have sold out.

I don’t know how, or even if Nintendo and Sony are combatting this. I figure that as long as their bottom line is satisfied, they don’t care who owns their systems or what gets done with them (I’d love to be wrong about this). Maybe start limiting units per address? That wouldn’t stop a mass coordination effort, but it’s something.

All I know is that the system, once again, isn’t fair, and it leaves a lot of honest people who just want their systems out in the cold.

Hope something changes.
