What Would You Like To See In Fallen Order 2?

Electronic Arts confirmed today that there would be no new Star Wars game at their showcase next week. However, they did drop hints that they’d be revealing something Star Wars related sometime next year.

The announcement throws cold water on the hope that we’d get confirmation on Fallen Order 2, but it also gives us the opportunity to play with new ideas for a little longer.

For those who haven’t played, Star Wars Fallen Order was a single-player, narrative-driven game that came out in 2019. Players took the role of Cal Kestis, a padawan who had a long way to go before reaching Knighthood. He vanished following Order 66, only to out himself a few years later in Fallen Order’s thrilling opening act. He’s rescued by Greez, a pilot and the enigmatic Cere Junda, who has the idea to rebuild the Jedi Order. The game took players across the galaxy far, far away and introduced several new noteworthy characters into the franchise, including the nightsister Merrin. It also gave us the haunting origin story of the Inquisitors. Put simply, it was one of the best Star Wars games to come around in a long time.

Star Wars has a habit of using new faces to bring familiar ones back into the fold as it ties its various timelines together. With Fallen Order 2 on the backburner, I figured now would be a good time to explore where the series could go. These are three things I’d like to see.

1). IDEN VERSIO

The future head of Inferno Squad would be a teenager, I think, at this time. One of the more compelling characters to emerge in the Star Wars universe, I would love to learn more about her formative years and how she came to be so devoted to the Empire in her own mind (initially, anyway). I’d love to see Fallen Order go a little darker a’la Empire Strikes back. A mission to recover something deep in Imperial space takes the crew to Vardos, where they encounter a young Iden Versio. Iden doesn’t yet know the Empire’s dark side. A meeting between two of the franchise’s most recent lead characters, on opposite sides, has a lot of potential.

2). OBI-WAN KENOBI

With one of Star Wars’ most prominent characters about to get his own show, this makes all kinds of sense. We already saw Obi-Wan serve a brief mentor to Ezra Bridger. Rather than re-create the standard scene in Rebels, how cool would it be for Cal Kestis to discover a holocron featuring the grizzled Jedi Master and somehow connect with him through the force? What if Obi-Wan taught Cal some much-needed defensive skills, or told him stories of his late master? A meeting of these two could work in Fallen Order 2, or the Kenobi show, but I’m hoping for something interactive.

3). DARTH MAUL

“It seems the padawan needs one last lesson.”
A meeting between Cal and everyone’s favorite renegade makes way too much sense. Maul could be anywhere in the galaxy at this point. The agent of chaos has a habit of showing up at the worst possible time and causing an insane amount of damage. Imagine a broken-down Mantis in the same location Maul happens to be in. Cal Kestis has zero chance of overcoming Maul in a duel, but perhaps seeing her comrade in dire straits gives Cere Junda the motivation she needs to pick up her lightsaber? We know she’s powerful; she was able to hold Darth Vader in check for a brief moment. A two-on-one featuring Cal and Cere against Maul is just too good an opportunity to pass up.

Fallen Order was one of the best games to come out of 2019. I have faith that the sequel will live up to the original. These are just three things I’d like to see when they finally announce it.
What about you? What are some of the things you’d like to see in the next Fallen Order?
Thanks for reading.
