…what they don’t often show you in the books or movies.
…compromise, investing in and being invested in.
…setting your needs aside from time to time to see that the needs of your partner are met. Knowing they’d do the same for you.
…hearing what you don’t want to hear, because it’s what you need to hear.
…trusting another human being with your memory.
…knowing and trusting that no matter what the other person says or does, they have both yours and their best interest at heart.
…that this is your forever person, for better or for worse.
This is absolutely not to say that marriage isn’t full of wonderful moments, or that these moments are few and far between. But these moments are only a single aspect of a healthy marriage. The rest involves work no one wants to talk about. But for anything to succeed, effort is required, and that is especially true when it comes to marriage.
